3 Recycling Activities For Kids

Today, recycling has become a vital step towards conserving the environment and several families who have caught on to the green trend have organized their households to recycle domestic trash and thus help the environment.

For families interested in living green, it is a great idea for you to involve your kids in the process so that they not only develop an environmental conscience, but that they also get to actively participate in making the world a cleaner and greener place to live.

Although the idea of involving children in the recycling process is sounds good, executing it might prove to be a little more difficult, with kids easily getting bored of recycling when they think of it as a chore.

Therefore, coming up with fun recycling activities for kids, where your children can participate without feeling like they are doing something dull and boring is a great way to inspire them to reduce, reuse and recycle. Here are three great ideas to help you get started.

1. One of the most interesting recycling activities for kids is to encourage them to make crafts with recyclable materials. A simple example is making sock puppets with old socks that cannot be worn anymore. Other ideas include using scrap paper for art projects and making all sorts of other items like costumes, pen stands and toys with objects that would ordinarily go into the trash.

2. Another great idea is to start a trash hunt in the school, where all the kids go around the school hunting for litter. Generously rewarding and celebrating the child with the most rubbish collected at the end of a stipulated time period (an hour or two) will inspire them to participate in the activity and develop a green conscience.

3. A third recycling activity for kids is to get them to collect your household aluminum cans and other containers that can be sold at recycling centers for cash. You can also involve relatives and neighbours. This will mean that not only does your child get to have more pocket money, but also they have contributed effectively towards the recycling process in your area.

Do you have any other ideas? I’d be happy to find out…..the crazier the better!!
